Julian at 11 Months

Baby boy at 11 months

Our Julian Koki is 11 months old! Which means that in one short month he will be a 1 year old! Yes, I know you can probably figure that math out yourselves, but I had to type it out to make it feel real. Still doesn’t though. Read on to find out what our busy, busy boy is up to at 11 months old! We love you beyond measure baby Jules.

Biggest Milestones: Baby Jules stood up independently for the very first time yesterday! I must admit, I thought he would be a little late with this milestone because his head is 110th percentile! That’s a lot to support for a little guy. I was so thrilled to witness this one! He walks with his walker, or along furniture more and more.  And his crawling is still too fast for me.

Talking: Julian is still a chatter box. He says yeah-yeah, mama, dada, nana and dodo the most. I’m still not sure when to call it a “first word” though. What’s your take?

Eating: This guy eats it all! He loves feeding myself (with his hands) so lately it’s been a lot of berries, noodles, bits of chicken and cheese. I swear he eats more than anyone else in the house. But he does feed the puppy quite a bit, so maybe that honor goes to Jet.

Sleeping: Our guy is still a wonderful sleeper. He takes two naps a day, and sleeps through the night. Unless he’s teething, then all bets are off.

Favorite activity: Apart from eating, Julian loves bath time! He gets excited if he even sees the tub. He plays with all of the bottles, the rubber ducky and the bubbles. My personal favorite is when he stands in the tub and does a little dance. You can see the cuteness that is Julian at bath time on our nighttime routine post.

Favorite book:  I keep meaning to switch it up, but I am hooked on reading Jules this sweet “My Dreams” book by Xavier Deneux from Barna and Co. The book has texture, metallics and even glows in the dark! It is the perfect bedtime storybook. Jules especially loves the “sometimes-whee!-I sail among the stars on my magic carpet…”

One thing I never want to forget: It only lasted for a few days, but Julian was giving kisses to his dada and I on the mouth when we would say “kiss!” It made my heart melt! But now I have to steal all of my kisses! Apparently this guy doesn’t have time for smooching at the moment. I still love every one of those stolen kisses though!

The Girls

Puppy and reading The Girls

THIS BOOK! The Girls by Emma Cline was hands down my favorite read this year. But I must say, I have a few friends that just could not get through it, so it is one of those books that is not for everyone. Love it or leave it, but I loved it. The protagonist Evie Boyd is trying to find her place in the world when she is befriended by a group of girls in a Charles Manson like cult in the summer of 1969. She in enthralled with life on the ranch, and becomes increasingly obsessed with Suzanne in particular. But in the blink of an eye everything changes, and she never sees it coming.

These book reviews can be tricky for me to write, because I don’t want to spoil the plot for anyone! This is the perfect read for the spooky month of October. I found The Girls to be intoxicating.

Favorite quote: “All that time I had spent readying myself, the articles that taught me life was really just a waiting room until someone noticed you—the boys had spent that time becoming themselves.” Emma Cline, The Girls

Have you read The Girls? Were you a fan? Let me know!

View More: http://whitneycoudrayphotography.pass.us/julian-bath-timeNighttime is easily one of my favorite times of day. Not just because I love to wind down after a hectic day, but because I am a creature of habit, and I love our bedtime routine! Every month I share a snippet of what Julian is up to, including his sleeping habits. You can read the latest one here. Every time I post these I get several questions about how we got Julian to be such a great sleeper. And while some of it may be luck, I also think establishing a solid bedtime routine has played its role. Here is ours!View More: http://whitneycoudrayphotography.pass.us/julian-bath-time

View More: http://whitneycoudrayphotography.pass.us/julian-bath-timeFirst up is bathtime! On a recent trip to Barna & Co we picked up a new bath product called Tubby Todd, that I’ve been eager to try out. Tubby Todd is all natural, which I love for that precious baby skin. And lately Julian has been eating bubbles, so being all natural is an even bigger bonus! I especially love the lavender wash for the calming scent. View More: http://whitneycoudrayphotography.pass.us/julian-bath-time

After the bath I lather Jules up with Tubby Todd’s lavender rosemary lotion to keep his baby skin soft and smooth. As for jammies, I am a Kickee Pants addict! Another island mom got me hooked on Kickee Pants when I was pregnant with Jules, and I’ve never looked back. Moms, if you haven’t tried KP, you need to! They use the softest fabric, so you’ll love wrapping your babe up in their clothing.View More: http://whitneycoudrayphotography.pass.us/julian-bath-time

I have been reading to Julian since he was born, and it is one of our special bonding activities. Barna & Co has the sweetest collection of books right now. This one caught my eye because of the fun metallics and glow in the dark characters. Julian has been such a wiggly worm lately, so I love fun books that can hold his attention.View More: http://whitneycoudrayphotography.pass.us/julian-bath-time

View More: http://whitneycoudrayphotography.pass.us/julian-bath-timeAfter storytime I take Julian to his nursery.  I nurse him for about 20 minutes then sing him Golden Slumbers by The Beatles. I lay him in his crib and he puts himself to sleep by rocking on his knees (so cute to watch!) and he often jabbers to himself for a few minutes. I just love it when he does this!View More: http://whitneycoudrayphotography.pass.us/julian-bath-time
