Celebrating our Julian’s first birthday was the icing on the cake to an amazing first year. Pun intended 😉 Our house was packed with close friends and family, with babies playing in the ball pit and kiddos bouncing off the walls and into the backyard. Our pup was lapping up spilled food and treats he snagged from guests; naughty pup! Mr. Julian slept through the first hour of his party and then was passed around the whole time, getting snacks and cuddles from everyone there. Talk about a lucky guy!
When planning Julian’s party, I didn’t necessarily have a theme in mind. I didn’t want to spend a fortunate at Party City on decor, and I didn’t have the
time desire to do a bunch of DIY projects. But mostly, I really wanted to keep things simple and natural. I wanted a lot of balloons and lots of gorgeous greens! Because from here on out I’m sure Jules will want cartoon themed parties every year!
The stunning floral arrangements were from my dear friend Leah of Leah Erickson Floral. Right before Leah arrived I was in a mild panic about how I didn’t decorate enough, and then voila! Her gorgeous blooms completed the whole space. To boot, she photographed the whole party for us! I cherish each and every one of these photos. The garland on the table and on Julian’s high chair is from my favorite spot for greens, Sherwood Forest Farms. I had toyed around with the idea of doing a banner on his chair. But like I mentioned above, I really wanted to keep things simple and green! And I am so thrilled with how everything turned out.
Okay, now let’s talk about this cake. Next to baby Jules, this cake was the talk of the party. I nearly cried when I saw how gorgeous it was! Christine from Crumbs Cakery has been my cake idol for years now, and I could not wait to use one of her creations for a party! I simply showed her a photo of Julian’s invitation and told her I wanted a balloon somewhere and she came up with the coolest design! I didn’t want the rustic smash cake I made anywhere near her work of art. The craziest thing about the cake is that it tasted just as good as it looked. We got the classic chocolate cake with salted caramel buttercream, and it was to die for! I am hungry just thinking about it. One guest had 4 pieces, I kid you not. I can’t praise Crumbs Cakery enough, if you’re having a party, call her! You will not be disappointed.
Lastly, I wanted to thank all of our friends and family that helped make this party such a huge success. The post would be endlessly long if I listed everyone, but you know who you are. In no way did we throw this party together on our own. I appreciate that some of you think I’m that coordinated, but really, I just have amazingly talented friends and family! Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate this milestone birthday for baby Julian! Jeff tells me that next year it will be a Central Market pizza and a keg 😉 So I hope you all enjoyed it while it lasted! I know we did!
